BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® treatment is a revolutionary approach to reversing the affects of facial wrinkles. Crow’s feet, worry lines and laugh lines can all be a thing of the past. Did you know that hyperactive muscles cause these wrinkles?  These are referred to as dynamic wrinkle lines and all are treatable with this procedure. Botox serves as a muscle relaxer for these very fine muscles, virtually erasing the wrinkles.

BOTOX® for Headaches and Facial Pain?

Patients that suffer from chronic headaches (including those that are often misdiagnosed as migraines) have found profound relief from injection of Botox into these hyperactive facial muscles. The concept being that overuse of muscles leads to a build up of lactic acid (think of the burning in your arms after a strenuous workout), leading to headache pain in the area.  Additionally, we’ve had great success treating muscle pain associated with Temporo-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) via delivery of Botox to these muscles. By relaxing these larger muscles of mastication (the muscles we use to chew with), we decrease the degree of force they can exert when clenching or grinding.

The BOTOX® Procedure

Despite BOTOX® injections being virtually painless, Dr. Arbeitman will usually prepare the areas to be injected with a topical anesthesia prior to injection. Only a very small sting is felt when the injections are made. The effects are not permanent and may need to be repeated two to three times per year to retain the effects. Research has suggested, however, that long-term use of the injections leads to a longer duration of each treatment’s effect.

Post-Operative Information

After the procedure patients may experience slight bruising around the area that quickly fades. Normal activities can be performed immediately. Possible side effects are temporary weakness of nearby muscles or in rare cases an eyelid may droop. BOTOX® is completely reversible so any side effect is only a temporary condition. The doctor will explain all risks associated at the time of your consultation.
